Menifee Valley Historical Association
Our Board is committed to preserving our local heritage through education, events, and community engagement. Together, we can honor our past and inspire future generations.
Co-authors Elinor Martin and Betty Bouris assembled these early photographs for the Menifee Valley Historical Association. Several photographs were provided by descendents of pioneer residents who still call the Menifee Valley their home. They both are Authors of the Menifee Valley book.
Elinor Martin is a third generation Menifee Valley resident.
Elinor's great-great grandfather James B. Ferrell came to Menifee in 1887 and homesteaded land known today as Audie Murphy Ranch. Elinor attended the Antelope School and Perris High School.
Elinor's family owned and managed the current property that is now Canyon Lake. She also authored that book.
Betty Bouris came to Menifee as a bride in 1950 and has lived for 67 years in her house that was built in 1888. She with husband Herk, and son Mike farmed extensively in the area growing wheat and sugar beets.
The Menifee book includes over 230 pictures of early Menifee from 1880 to 1960. The cost is $20.00 and can be obtained at the Museum
The Southwestern Riverside County Museum Collaboration Group has created a Local History Museum Passport. Similar to the National Park Service’s Passport to Your National Parks book, the Passport encourages people to visit eight local history museums in our area: Menifee Museum, Hamilton Museum and Ranch, Lake Elsinore Museum, Little Temecula History Center, Hemet Museum, Murrieta Museum, Perris Museum, and Temecula Valley Museum. For each museum, there is a place to stamp your Passport with the individual museum’s rubber stamp.
