DownloadU.S. Route 395, also known as the “Three Flags Highway” stretches nearly 1,500 miles along the western United States crossing through
California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington.
The Route connected three countries: Mexico, United States and Canada. It was officially designated U.S. Highway 395 in 1939.During World War II the U.S. military transported service personnel and equipment between March Air Field and deployment bases in
San Diego. Daily convoys traveled through small towns including
Perris, Lake Elsinore, and Murrieta.
In 1952 , an engineering project known as “The Big Cut” was completed (see photo below). Crews blasted and excavated a passage through the Menifee hills creating a direct alignment linking Perris to Temecula. U.S. Route 395, has shared many local names and number designations over the years including 15E and I-215.
In partnership with the City of Menifee, we are proud to recognize the historic route that passes through the Menifee Valley with the installation of the signs.

The Southwestern Riverside County Museum Association has created a Local History Museum Passport. Similar to the National Park Service’s Passport to Your National Parks book, the Passport encourages people to visit eight local history museums in our area: Hemet Museum, Hamilton Museum and Ranch, Lake Elsinore Museum, Little Temecula History Center, Menifee Museum, Murrieta Museum, Perris Museum, and Temecula Valley Museum. For each museum, there is a place to stamp your Passport with the individual museum’s rubber stamp as well as their address and hours open.
Museums are amazing places for learning about local history and the place where you live!!! We know you will be surprised what you learn about our place called Menifee.
Come into our Museum and walk around with a Docent or your family and earn a FREE iron-on Patch/Badge. There are questions on the back of the activity book for you to answer at the Museum or at home.
