In order to educate the public about Menifee's past, the Menifee Valley Historical Association partnered with the Riverside County Board of Supervisors and the City of Menifee to create and construct historical markers throughout Menifee that identify places of historical significance.

Highway 395 historic route
U.S. Route 395, also known as the “Three Flags Highway” stretches nearly 1,500 miles along the western United States crossing through
California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington.
The Route connected three countries: Mexico, United States and Canada. It was officially designated U.S. Highway 395 in 1939.During World War II the U.S. military transported service personnel and equipment between March Air Field and deployment bases in
San Diego. Daily convoys traveled through small towns including
Perris, Lake Elsinore, and Murrieta.
In 1952 , an engineering project known as “The Big Cut” was completed. Crews blasted and excavated a passage through the Menifee hills creating a direct alignment linking Perris to Temecula.U.S. Route 395, has shared many local names and number designations over the years including 15E and I-215.
In partnership with the City of Menifee, we are proud to recognize the historic route that passes through the Menifee Valley with the installation of the signs.
